Abarth Creates Reality Show for Racing Drivers

Fiat's performance division looks for the next pro racing driver with new reality show in Italy.

There are reality shows for all sorts of talents: singers, dancers, chefs, business execs...you name it. What TV is missing is a reality show for finding new racing drivers, but Fiat's performance division Abarth is gearing up to fill that void with a new program in Italy. "Make It Your Race" and seeks to find the next racing talent in Europe. Out of 30,000 applications, 106 contestants were vetted from Italy, Germany, the UK, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg, with the best 24 chosen.

Those two-dozen aspirants were put through boot camp to see who had the chops to make it as a professional racing driver. The process has whittled the number down to six (one from each of the aforementioned European countries, with Belgium and Luxembourg paired together) who will be competing for a chance to race an Abarth 500 Assetto Corse racer. The show is hosted by an Italian TV host duo known as Bugs, with former F1 pilot Arturo Merzario and DTM driver Vanina Ickx acting as judges. The program will air in six 30-minute episodes Wednesdays on SkySports2, before broadcasting across Europe, Japan and South America.
