5 Awesome Electric Supercars

These EVs prove that not all electric cars are bland and boring.
Chances are that you'll never be able to afford any of the electric supercars featured here. That's okay, especially since these vehicles aren't intended for mass consumption. No, these awesome electric supercars are four-wheeled environmental statements. They're meant to show gearheads and automakers that cars powered by batteries don't have to be boring and slow. It will take some time, but hopefully these electric supercars will inspire automakers to build sportier EVs.

Jaguar's C-X75 is powered by four in-wheel electric motors each capable of producing 195 hp (780 hp in total) and 297 lb-ft of torque (1,187 lb-ft in total). The lithium-ion battery pack powering the motors is good for a max range of 68 miles. Two 96 hp micro gas turbines kick in after the battery gives out to extend the concept's range to 560 miles. The C-X75 weighs in at 2,970 pounds and has a 0-62 time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.

The Eliica EV is fast enough to go toe-to-toe with just about any gas-powered supercar on the planet. Developed by Japanese professor Hiroshi Shimizu, the Eliica EV has eight 80 hp motors installed in each of its wheels. The 640hp spaceship lookalike takes only 10 hours to charge and has a supercar-killing top speed of 230 mph.
Bristol is reportedly developing an electric supercar in collaboration with Proton. The supercar would be powered by four in-wheel electric motors separated into two powertrains. Bristol's electric supercar would have a range extender to help it appeal to those who are afraid of running out of juice while driving an EV. The two companies have set a top speed goal of 200 mph and hope to debut the supercar as early as 2013.
The Rimac Concept One may be the fastest thing to ever come out of Croatia. The electric supercar's 1,100 hp engine is good for a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph. The max range for the Concept One is 373 miles. Rimac has limited production of its $1 million supercar to just 90 units.
Shelby SuperCar's Aero EV is said to have a 1,200 hp engine and a top speed of 208 mph. The concept claims a max range of somewhere between 150-200 miles. That all sounds semi-believable, but the company jumps the shark in a big way by claiming that the Aero EV's battery can be fully charged in just 10 minutes.
