Google VP Receives 599XX at Monza

Google's Benjamin Sloss takes delivery of his 599XX Evo, for which he donated 1.4 million euros to charity, during the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.

Earlier this summer, Ferrari put a whole raft of items up for auction to raise money to alleviate the suffering of the victims of a devastating earthquake that struck the region where Ferraris (not to mention Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Paganis and Ducatis) are made. Among the items auctioned was a 599XX Evo that sold to what was at the time an unnamed American buyer who has now been identified as Benjamin Sloss, the Vice-President of Engineering for Google, who picked up his 599XX at Monza during the Italian Grand Prix yesterday.

Capable of lapping the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes, the 599XX is an experimental track car, based on the 599 GTB, which Ferrari offers to its top clients. Neither road car nor race car, the 599XX acts as a rolling test bed for new technologies, including a 740-horsepower V12 engine and adaptive aerodynamics. The one-of-a-kind yellow 599XX Evo was presented to Sloss by Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo and the Scuderia's two star drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, who finished the race in third and fourth places, respectively. The 1.4 million euros which Sloss paid for the track car represents the lion's share of the $2.3 million raised for the cause.
