Mito Motorsports Builds Rear-Engined Kia Cee'd

Nutty Slovakians create arguably the craziest Kia Cee’d in the world.

Apart from when it's being used as Top Gear's reasonably priced car, the Kia Cee'd is rarely given any airtime. There are only a handful of tuners that look to the hatchback as a potential project, but after seeing this crazy assignment by Slovakia's Mito Motorsports, that may well change. The racing specialist transfered the first-gen compact's 2.0-liter turbo diesel inline-four engine from the front end to the rear, but not before tweaking it to deliver 200 horsepower.

In the process, the tuner has moved the fuel tank and oil cooler up to the front where the engine used to be, giving the Kia a 43/57 weight distribution. A work in progress, Mito says there is room to boost output to 300 hp at a later stage. Once complete, the hot hatchback will compete in hill climbs, rally cross events and drift exhibitions.

Photos of the RWD Kia Cee'd include a pair of renderings by Martin Duris who is working on the project as a designer, giving us an idea of what the car will look like after a wide body kit is added, including widened fenders, custom bumpers and spoiler.
