With the Ghost emerging as its top seller, Rolls-Royce is planning two or more new derivatives. The question is what form they will take.
Rolls-Royce ventured into new territory with the launch of the Ghost sedan in 2010. Smaller than the behemoth Phantom, the Ghost has proven to be the company's top seller, beating out the record set by the Silver Shadow II, which sold 3347 units in 1978. But don't expect that to be the end of it. According to reports, the Goodwood-based automaker is planning several offshoots on the Ghost platform in the coming years, aimed at helping it reach sales volumes of 4,000 units per annum.
First up will be a coupe, tipped to revive the Corniche nameplate, with a shortened wheelbase, more powerful engine and sportier orientation than any of the company's current offerings. Beyond that, however, is open to speculation. The long-wheelbase model is already helping Rolls reach new customers, particularly in China. A convertible version to slot in below the Phantom Drophead Coupe could follow, but beyond that is anyone's guess. One thing Rolls has reportedly ruled out, however, is producing any limited-production models beyond what its Bespoke division currently offers.
