Switzer's Red Katana GT-R Hits 8-Seconds in the Quarter-Mile

The 1,500-horsepower Godzilla destroys quarter-miles and supercars alike.

The Nissan GT-R has a well-earned reputation as a supercar-killer and Switzer Performance's take on Godzilla can now officially be known as a dragster-killer as well. The 1,500-horespower R1K-X GT-R recently ran a quarter-mile in 8.97 seconds and stunned not only with its looks but its raw power and speed as well. The 8-second GT-R is known affectionately as the Red Katana or, more officially, the R1K-X, was one of the fastest cars to ever grace Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, located in northern Ohio.

It produces 1,000 horsepower at the wheels from its highly-tuned 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 and, while running the quarter-mile in under 9-seconds, hits a speed of 163mph. Switzer says that this insanely-powerful GT-R is perfect to use as a daily driver, as the interior is fitted with quilted leather and plenty of Alcantara. Weight-saving carbon fiber pieces have also been added alongside a new sound system. In total, the GT-R weighs about 300lbs heavier than the standard model but with all the extra power under the hood, it should be hard to notice.
