Confirmed for America: Ford Fiesta ST

The most powerful sub-compact hot hatch will soon be sold in the US as well as Europe.

We were smitten from the moment we first saw the concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. Although it hadn't been given the production green light just yet, the Ford Fiesta ST concept looked to be about 95 percent road ready. Ford also wouldn't say whether it was heading for US shores or not (guaranteed for Europe though), but something kept telling us it was only a matter of time. AutoGuide has now confirmed that Ford will in fact be selling the Fiesta ST sub-compact hot hatch stateside in the very near future.

While no official on sale date has been announced, Ford did say that the US-spec Fiesta ST will be sold only as a five-door hatch unlike the three-door concept. A Ford marketing manager also confirmed to AutoGuide that the production Fiesta ST will feature the same torque vectoring control system that's in the Focus ST. Ford actually developed that system and the suspension on the Nurburgring, so we're expecting great things here. Power will likely come from the 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-pot that produces 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, thereby making it the most powerful sub-compact on the market - beating out the Chevrolet Sonic's 138hp and 148lb-ft of torque.
