First Details of Next-Gen Toyota Auris

Toyota's popular Euro hatchback has been redesigned as it faces ever increasing competition.

With all of those rare and exotic cars in the spotlight from last weekend's Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach, Toyota figured today would be a good time to reveal the first details about their next-generation Auris hatchback. Set to debut late next month at the Paris Motor Show, the Auris, like the outgoing model, is basically the hatchback version of the Corolla sedan but specifically built for the European and Japanese markets. In the US, Toyota sells the Matrix hatchback instead.

Toyota is quick to point out that its new C-segment hatch has sharper exterior styling, improved aerodynamics, and an interior distinguished by more cabin and cargo space, smarter packaging, and greater use of high quality materials. The interior also includes something called "Skyview", which Toyota says is one of the largest panoramic roofs in the segment. The grille features the Japanese automaker's new corporate "face" with those sharper-edged headlights complete with LED daytime running lamps. Power is set to come from a choice of either a 1.4-liter diesel as well as a 1.3- and 1.6-liter gasoline engines.

We expect that the upcoming hybrid version will be available with a 1.8-liter engine paired with an electric motor, which is the drivetrain found in the Prius. Production will take place at Toyota's UK Burnaston plant in Derbyshire. More details will be announced as we get closer to Paris, but for now Toyota has released plenty of photos.
