These videos prove that Pikes Peak isn't a walk in the park.
It can be easy to forget just how tough the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb really is. Each year the runs seem to get faster and the drivers seem to get braver. Yet virtually each year there's a gnarly crash or two that makes you realize that this hill climb is unlike any other. The videos featured here all have entertainment value in the sense that watching a car wreck is a sight to see. If anything though, these clips should serve as a reminder as to just how brave and skillful you need to be to make it to the top of Pikes Peak in a competitive fashion.
Gary Lee Kanawyer was just seconds away from potentially setting a new Pikes Peak world record (back in 1993) when he veered off course and crashed. This crash may not be as gnarly as some of the other ones on this list, but it is without a doubt the most heartbreaking.
