Get ready to fall in love.
There are times in our lives when we ask ourselves what's the perfect car. To be perfectly honest, there's no specific right or wrong answer but we're willing to bet that some of our readers will find Classic Recreations' latest to be one of the most beautiful things they've ever seen. Although it was never officially built and just one prototype was produced for the late Carroll Shelby himself back in 1967, Classic Recreations has recently unveiled what they hope will give enthusiasts the answer to their dream car question.
The Yukon, Oklahoma-based company says the launch of the G.T.500CR is a bittersweet thing because it was the last of their cars to receive Carroll Shelby's approval before his death in May. Powered by a hand-built 427 cubic inch 7.0-liter V8 with fuel injection and 545hp, Classic Recreations has fully modernized the car's mechanicals with a state-of-the-art suspension, power rack and pinion steering and a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. Built entirely in their own facilities, they also utilized top-shelf performance parts as well as Carroll Shelby signature rally series 1000 seats, standard 17-inch wheels and a real Shelby Le Mans racing gas cap.
Customers will have a choice of five different exterior color schemes and various other authentic Shelby Performance parts. For those craving even more horsepower, the G.T.500CR 900S has all of the features of the "standard" 545 Convertible, but thanks to an F1-R Intercooled ProCharger supercharged engine, output increases to an insane 780hp. The 900S also offers a 200 mph speedometer, racing-style bucket seats as well as various suspension and chassis upgrades. Perhaps its best to celebrate Shelby's life and legacy once again with what could be the greatest Mustang convertible ever built.
