Opel Readying Updated Insignia

GM's German sedan and wagon were spotted undergoing hot-weather testing.

Opel's popular Insignia sedan is getting a mid-cycle refresh, and having spied the camouflaged car back in April, it has now been spotted undergoing some hot weather testing in southern Europe. As the brand's best-selling car, Opel won't be making any drastic changes to the Insignia. But given that it was launched back in 2008, it's time for a spruce-up. Both the sedan and Sports Tourer wagon where spied testing, and from these snaps we can discern re-designed bumpers, headlights, grille and taillamps.

On these prototypes the rear lights are built purely for test purposes but on the finished product they're likely to be LEDs. The nearly identical Vauxhall Insiginia will almost certainly be aping these changes for the UK market, and by extension its North American cousin the Buick Regal. New engines are expected to be added to the lineup while current units will be upgraded to improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions.
