Bentley Preparing New Flying Spur

Bentley’s next-generation Continental Flying Spur caught on camera testing for the first time.

Where there's smoke, there's fire, and where there's a new Bentley Continental, there's bound to be a Flying Spur nearby. So now that the new Continental GT and GTC are in showrooms, Bentley is hard at work on the new four-door model. Expected for release in late 2013 or early 2014, the next-generation Continental Flying Spur has popped up in this first batch of spy shots wearing camouflage that makes it look something like a Mercedes S-Class. Make no mistake about it, though, this is the new Continental Flying Spur.

The big sedan is essentially a four-door version of Bentley's two-door Continental GT. It will be getting some relatively large changes for the 2014 model year, including a more upright grille and redesigned bumpers. The changes aren't limited to the face, however. New lights front and rear are expected, the door handles have been moved backward and new side mirrors jut out near the A-pillars. Fake wheel arches disguise the car's styling, and the usual chrome strip is gone from this prototype. Most importantly, we can see from these shots that the less-than-elegant roofline of the previous model appears to have been smoothed out.
