918 Spyder Gets Martini Racing Livery

Porsche targeting 7:22 lap time at the Nurburgring for new hybrid supercar. Martini livery may not actually help, but it sure looks fast.

Few racing liveries are as iconic as the Martini Racing scheme. Gracing the Porsche racing cars that claimed victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1971, 1976 and 1977 - including the 1971 Porsche 917 (pictured last) that inspired the design of the new 918 Spyder - the livery is inexorably tied to the Stuttgart outfit. A couple of weeks ago we brought you spy shots of a 918 prototype testing in a grayscale Martini livery, and now Porsche has released photos of the hybrid supercar in the full color scheme.

In the process Porsche has proclaimed a goal for the 918 to lap the Nurburgring in less than 7 minutes and 22 seconds. Considering that the 911 GT2 RS clocked a time of 7:18 and the Carrera GT lapped the famous track in 7:28, the goal seems within Porsche's reach. To get there, the 918 packs a 4.6-liter V8 coupled to a pair of electric motors to deliver over 770 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Porsche predicts a 0-60 mph time of less than 3 seconds and a top speed of over 202 mph, with fuel consumption forecasted at 78 mpg. Variable aerodynamics, adaptive rear-axle steering and an upwards-exiting exhaust system are also part of the package.

The 918 Spyder is set to enter production in September 2013. Only 918 examples are scheduled to be built, all of which have reportedly been pre-sold for 645,000 Euros apiece. At least one of those owners will undoubtedly spec his out in the Martini livery. The question is whether Porsche will offer it direct from the factory.
