Twin-Turbo 911 Celebrates 35 Years of RUF

German tuning firm RUF marks 35 years of building custom Porsches with 630 horsepower.

The Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic cars in automotive history, and RUF has been performing aftermarket work on the rear-engined sports car for 35 years. Its latest take on the new 991-series 911 celebrates those years with a package sure to please even the purists. Previewed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, the latest RUF job uses a Porsche 911 Carrera S as a foundation, augmented by a twin-turbocharger kit for the benchmark sportscar's 3.8-liter flat-six.

The finished product cranks up the 911's output to a mind-blowing 630 horsepower and an intimidating 608 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the standard 2012 911 Carrera S, those numbers represent ridiculous boosts of 230 horsepower and 283 pound-feet of torque. All that added power is sent through Porsche's PDK 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox to the rear wheels and, according to Auto Motor und Sport, allows the 35th Anniversary Edition to sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 205mph.

Those performance figures have been aided by RUF's changes to the car's exterior. Available for both the coupe and convertible 911s, those tweaks include a pair of air intakes on the rear fenders and aerodynamic add-ons affixed all around. The result represents an aftermarket alternative to the GT2 RS, running on a set of 20-inch wheels, the rear of which are wrapped in 305mm-wide rubber.
