McLaren's New Supercar to Debut in Paris

McLaren's new flagship supercar to pack 800hp turbo V8 and KERS for combined output of 1,000 horsepower.

If you thought the MP4-12C was awesome, just wait until McLaren reveals its big brother. According to sources, that could come around sooner than later. The successor to the legendary McLaren F1 is expected to pack an upgraded version of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 from the 12C producing nearly 800 horsepower. But with a boost from an Formula 1-derived KERS hybrid system, overall output could top 1,000 hp. The Mega Mac's 0-60 time could be down to less than 2.5 seconds as a result.

We've been patiently awaiting news of when the new McLaren would be ready, and now rumors indicate it could make its debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September. The supercar is said to be ready to go, with McLaren Automotive reportedly planning to show it to a select group of clients alongside the new 12C Spider at Pebble Beach next month. So it looks like the wait could be nearly over. The supercar's design is expected to be much more aggressive than that of the existing MP4-12C, which was commonly assessed as highly derivative. (In other words, the 12C looks like any other supercar on the road.)

The 12C's design was mostly completed by the time Frank Stephenson, designer of the Mini, BMW X5 and numerous Ferraris, Maseratis and Alfa Romeos, came on board. The new supercar, however, stands to be his first clean-sheet design since signing on as McLaren's chief designer.
