Psychedelic Porsche 918 Spyder Reveals Interior

Take a look inside Porsche’s upcoming hybrid supercar.
Developmental prototypes typically wear some sort of camouflaging in order to hide their shapes from prying eyes, but for the 918 Spyder, Porsche has taken a different track with black-and-white racing liveries. The last time we saw the 918 testing at the Nurburgring, it was wearing a greyscale Martini Racing livery. This time the German automaker has decked it out in the psychedelic "Hippie" livery inspired by the original 917 racer in 1970. But that's not all that's intriguing about this particular batch of spy shots.

These shots also give us our first glimpse of the upcoming Porsche supercar's interior since the concept first appeared at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Although large parts of the dash are concealed, we can still make out the floating instrument panel with three round gauges and the center console with large LCD touch screen that featured on the concept. Exposed areas reveal plenty of carbon-fiber trim. We can also see an aluminum paddle shifter, a small gearshift knob with red indicator, sports seats with "918 Spyder" stitched into the headrests, and, most exciting of all, the speedometer appears to have a 9000-rpm redline and the word "Charge" inscribed.
Porsche's first hybrid-only supercar will be powered by a 4.6-liter V8, good for nearly 570hp, and two electric motors mounted at the front and rear, with the front rated at 107hp and the rear putting out 121hp. That will make the combined output of the production 918 nearly 800hp. However just this weekend Porsche Canada CEO Joe Lawrence announced that during recent testing the supercar was surpassing that figure. Expect a 0-60 time of less than 3 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph. Production of the hybrid supercar will be highly limited, with pricing tipped to start at around $850,000.
