Toyota Racing Development Details GT 86 Modifications for the UK

Toyota's new sportscar gets some enhancements from its racing division, scheduled for release this January.

Following its world debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon and its UK debut at the Goodwood FOS, Toyota has released some new photos and provided further information on the TRD GT 86, which the Japanese automaker has described as the "ultimate road going evolution" of the RWD sports coupe. Exterior modifications to the sweet-handling car include a lower front spoiler, aerodynamic fins ahead of the front wheels, wider side skirts, a bigger boot lid wing and a venturi-style rear diffuser.

Toyota also added a TRD badge to the oil filler cap and a set of new 18-inch black forged alloys wrapped in Michelin performance tires. The interior boasts new sport bucket seats, additional instrumentation in the form of a Sports Meter Link System that monitors water temperature and oil temp and pressure gauges, as well as a red push button start switch and a TRD-badged gearshift. The 2.0-liter four-pot remains stock, however the chassis has been treated to a new adjustable suspension system, thicker front and rear anti-roll bars, and more powerful brakes.

Completing the package is a new quad exhaust system for enhanced engine response and sound. In other words, it's the GT 86 (known Stateside as the Scion FR-S)... only more so. The Toyota Racing Development (TRD) GT 86 is set to go on sale in the UK in January 2013.
