Most Victorious Racing Corvette in History Crossing the Auction Block

1968 Chevy L-88 Corvette racecar expected to fetch $1million at next month’s Monterey auction.
RM Auctions at Monterey this year is being billed as one of the best ever, not least because it will be auctioning off the most successful Corvette race car of all time. Generally considered the most victorious racing Corvette in history, the 1968 Chevy L-88 Corvette, an Owens/Corning FIA/SCCA race car, won multiple SCCA championships at the hands of Tony DeLorenzo, son of GM exec John, and his partner in crime Jerry Thompson.

Honors include the 1969 and 1972 SCCA National 'A' Production Championships and the 1969 and 1970 GT Class wins in the 24 Hours of Daytona. Presented in its 1971 24 Hours of Daytona livery, the L-88 being presented comes complete with original 7.0-liter big block V8 engine rated at 685hp and mated to a Muncie M-22 "Rockcrusher" transmission, and was recently restored to original spec by Kevin MacKay. As one of the most important Corvette racecars in existence, early estimates have the '68 L-88 going for a cool million, but we won't be surprised if the final bid goes well into seven figures.
