Elantra Becomes Zombie Survival Machine for Comic-Con

When the zombies come (and they are going to come), this is the car you want.
If you were preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse - which, as we all know, could come any day now - what would you drive? A beefed-up muscle car? A rough-and-tumble SUV? How about a Hyundai Elantra? Er... maybe not our first choice, but the Korean automaker came to Comic-Con in San Diego this year with a modified Elantra coupe designed for the purpose of defending the uninfected from the only beings (alive, dead or in between) even pastier than the fanboys at the show.

Designed by writer/creator Robert Kirkman and brought to life by Design Craft, the heavily modified Elantra coupe, dubbed the Zombie Survival Machine, celebrates the 100th issue of "The Walking Dead" comic series. As you can see, the Elantra has been outfitted with a range of cool features. These include a large spiked plow, window bars, a roof hatch to enable the picking off of zombies from up high, an electrically-operated rear trunk filled with pneumatic weaponary, front and rear floodlights, spiked all-terrain tires and a CB radio. In other words, all you could need to fend off the undead hoards.
"Our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine is the ultimate car for The Walking Dead fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie invasion," said Steve Shannon, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. "We are excited for fans to come and experience the Elantra Coupe and GT in a unique, post-apocalyptic way." Check it out in the images below, and head over to the dedicated website where you can learn more about the car and enter a sweepstake to win a new Elantra GT.
