One thing is for certain: this Alfa won't be a hybrid.

Mazda is currently putting the finishing touches on their next generation MX-5 Miata. Set to debut in the coming months, the fourth generation of the world's best-selling sports car is set to return to its roots by cutting a significant amount of weight. Mazda engineers have reportedly been frustrated over the years that their beloved roadster has continued to grow in size and bulk. It'll likely be powered by Mazda's new SkyActiv 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine.

But perhaps one of the sweetest bits of official news that's been announced in the past couple of weeks, Mazda and Fiat have just teamed up to build an unnamed Alfa Romeo roadster off the next MX-5's platform. Don't mistake this for the 4C, which is still due to arrive in 2014. This second roadster will be smaller, less powerful, and cheaper. Think of it as more of a modern day version of the classic Duetto Spider. So what could the final car look like? AutoExpress has just released these rendered images that we think are a fairly accurate preview of what Fiat has in mind.

We do know that the Alfa will be priced a bit higher than the MX-5 and both cars will be built at Mazda's Hiroshima, Japan plant. No official details have been given just yet, but Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne wants this new Alfa on the market (including North America) by 2015.
