One-Off 205hp Mazda MX-5 GT Concept Heading to Goodwood

The Mazda Miata gets a new concept for the Goodwood Festival.

The 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed begins on June 28th and in addition to a nasty-fast Pagani Zonda R EVO making its debut will be a Mazda MX-5 GT Concept. The new concept, inspired by the MX-5 GT racer, features a 205hp naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline plant and some slick orange and black styling on the exterior. The MX-5 GT Concept will use that extra 33hp over its standard counterpart to move fast, along with some aerodynamic pieces and an adjustable suspension.

A front splitter, rear diffuser and spoiler, center-mounted dual tailpipes and sports exhaust all add to the hot little roadster concept's appeal. Lightweight Recaro sport seats and carbon fiber make up the biggest changes on the interior. "The MX-5 has been our best known car for 22 years and with the GT4 and GT Concept on show, we are demonstrating that this car can compete with the more expensive race and performance cars but still remain true to its roots of affordable motoring with a strong focus on the driving experience," said Mazda UK's managing director, Jeremy Thomson.

Set to run up the Goodwood Hill, the Mazda MX-5 GT is sure to win over some new fans. This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from the 28th of June to July 1st.
