60-Year-Old Mercedes-Benz Barn Find to Fetch £1.5Million in Auction

Left in a garage since the Fifties, this vintage Mercedes can claim to have one owner from new.

Amazingly, this ultra-rare Mercedes Benz has been in the same family since new. Purchased from The British Mercedes Ltd. in London at the end of the 1920's, the 1928 Mercedes-Benz 26/120/180 'S' Type Sports Tourer was last used in the 1950s at which time the owner locked it up in a garage. Upon its introduction, the supercharged S-Type Mercedes was one of the fastest cars in the world posting a top speed of 100mph.

Despite spending 60 years motionless and untouched, the completely original and unrestored vintage Mercedes runs perfectly. Now the unidentified owner, whose grandfather was one of the earliest buyers of the car, has decided to put it up for auction with Bonhams, who hope to recover around £1.5million at its Goodwood Revival Sale on 15 September. A spokesman for the auction house said: "This newly discovered 1928 Mercedes-Benz S-Type Sports Tourer is almost without precedent.

"Motor cars of this type and age have rarely been in the same family ownership from new." Any S series Mercedes is highly sought after, but the fact the car can claim to have one owner since new will make this particular model even more desirable.
