Audi is becoming the red bull f1 of endurance racing
Stephen Tyler Learn Jun 23, 2012
Carbuzz when are you going to report on the zl1 vs gt500 article by automobile?

Audi has won the last 11 of 12 races

What kind of power is this motor making?
Kevin Irish Jun 24, 2012
What does being their sponsor have to do with it? Motor Trend already did this story a few weeks ago, as well as other automotive news outlets. Mazda wants to return to Le Mans, but they already won with a rotary, plus it's not allowed anymore anyway due to emissions reasons, so they're going to try winning with diesel power. The engine Mazda is selling to racing teams is well engineered and will...
Knox Ferraro Jun 23, 2012
Disregard the fact that Mazda is CarBuzz's sponsor. This is TOTALLY sincere. (Sarcasm)
Cezary Koral Jun 23, 2012
I actually have high hopes for it, sure it's weird they are leaving the rotary for the diesel but then again why not
Kyle Rawn Jun 23, 2012
Your'e joking right?
Jordan Jackson Jun 26, 2012
it would be awesome, but the rotary is a completely different animal, considering that it also doesn't have any valves or a camshaft to help control the emissions, hence the SkyActiv piston engines
Cho Dan Jun 24, 2012
Just a side note. I got a personal tour of Mazda's race shop in Charlotte NC back in '92 when they raced the RX-792P in GTP racing. That car was amazing! The called the shop a Starship base in NASCAR country.
Cho Dan Jun 24, 2012
The Mazda 787B was the first Japanese manufacturer to win LeMan's, with a 4-rotor rotary engine no less. It is still relevant today. They also set speed and distance driven records in the 24 hour time span.
Kevin Irish Jun 24, 2012
I think Mazda can do that themselves. Look at the SkyActiv engines, for example. Mazda could have gone the route others took with downsized, turbo-charged engines, but they didn't. They went high-tech and completely rethought and basically reinvented the internal combustion engine. Ones that use pistons so far, anyway. After the next-gen MX-5 goes into production, I'm sure Mazda will focus their ...
No Pistons Jun 23, 2012
Personally I think Mazda should allow other company's to take a crack at the wankel(again). The reason for bad mpgs is due to its inefficient thermal dynamics. If a company can find a way to evenly cool/heat the motor then we have ourselves a winner!
Jethroll Sarduy Jun 23, 2012
If I remember correctly, this car got banned for being too much of a badass back in the days. The power to weight ratio is insane. Other car companies classified it as being unfair. Long live the rotary engine!
William Downs Jun 23, 2012
specially not in race trim
Nick Sti Jun 23, 2012
@Bob I believe so, but cars must be efficient, and as great of a design as the rotary is, it isn't the most Eco-friendly design
Bob Jones Jun 23, 2012
Correct me if I'm wrong but with the 2014 regulations changing to allow basically any powertrains, can't they finally make another rotary powered prototype?
Geoff Novak Jun 23, 2012
Best lookin car in le mans ever. top 10 of all time in my opinion
Zaire Wilkins Jun 23, 2012
this is the loudest car on forza 4
No Pistons Jun 23, 2012
Lol what's up with this kid? Your statement makes no sense whatsoever. Audi winning this year is completely irrelavent to them showing a picture of the 787.
Nick Sti Jun 23, 2012
@Knox, do you know what car this is? You look very, very uneducated
Knox Ferraro Jun 23, 2012
Oh look, a Mazda. Despite the fact that Audi took all 3 poll positions. Surprise, surprise.

That sounds like a Hyundai name... Lol
Kevin Irish Jun 24, 2012
It's an extended-range electric vehicle. It still has a gasoline engine, but it never directly drives the wheels. And the fire problem is being fixed. A few new battery braces and I think a tweak to the cooling system and they're good to go. And at least GM is fixing the problem instead of just blowing it off as typical accident damage. Also, no one has built a car like this before. Yes, there's ...
Brad Henson Jun 23, 2012
@Chris it isn't an EV, it's a hybrid
Alec Lindgren Jun 23, 2012
lol the Volt catches fire randomly and that doesn't suck?
Chris Penza Jun 23, 2012
It catches on fire too much. And it's an EV which pretty much makes it bad to every gearhead on earth

It would of been awesome for them to get 340 out of it (100hp/liter)
Mark Boulton Jun 23, 2012
Its not wider, the car is longer, and shorter, with a wider track width, but overall is the exact same width. And yes, now all of the cars have the electronic parking brake.
Ethan Amo Jun 23, 2012
I guess this will have an electronic parking brake too *sigh*

Local Subaru dealer had a blue BR-Z out front. Looks nice, but I'd still take the 1992 Miata they have over the new BR-Z.
