313 Horsepower, Twin-Turbo Diesel Audi SQ5 Revealed

The long-rumored Audi SQ5 twin-turbo diesel is finally here - but it's for Europe only.
Audi and parent company Volkswagen have consistently engineered and built what are some of the world's best clean diesel engines. While other automakers ignored diesels outright and went ahead with the development of battery-gasoline hybrids, VW has remained steadfast in their passion and confidence for diesels. And we truly thank them for this because today Audi has revealed yet another diesel-powered gem, the 2013 SQ5 TDI.

Based on the hot-selling Q5 crossover, the SQ5 TDI produces a total of 313hp and 479lb-ft of torque from its 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine. As the first S model in the history of Audi with a diesel engine, the SQ5 TDI goes from 0 to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission that sends power to all four wheels and the crossover still manages 32.67 U.S. miles per gallon. Audi also added a sport suspension that lowers the body by 30 millimeters as well as standard 20-inch wheels (21-inchers are optional).

In order to make the SQ5 TDI stand out against the base Q5, Audi added a platinum gray single-frame grille with galvanized double bars in an aluminum-look finish. Passengers are also treated to an array of interior upgrades such as power-adjustable sport seats that come in Pearl Nappa leather/Alcantara, brushed aluminum inlays and optional piano finish, carbon atlas, or new aluminum/beaufort wood black trim panels. Because Audi wants passengers to enjoy the wonderful sound of the bi-turbo engine, they've actually added a sound actuator in the exhaust system (basically a loudspeaker) that channels exhaust noise into the interior.
Starting at a base price of €58,500, the Audi SQ5 TDI will arrive in European dealerships this fall. So far, Audi has given no indication of plans to bring it stateside. Typical.
