SRT Viper GTS-R Track Test Debut

SRT puts the Viper’s racing cousin to the test ahead of its debut at the American Le Mans Series.

The SRT Viper GTS-R has finally made it to the racetrack, with Carolina Motorsports Park chosen for its maiden voyage.

As we wait for the Viper to be released, SRT has put the racing variant through its paces in preparation for the American Le Mans Series at which SRT plan to race two GTS-R models in the GT class. According to SRT Motorsports, the preliminary run was a roaring success. "To basically build that car, start it up the first time like the day before and have it run around the whole day and do everything it was supposed to do was a huge achievement," said Gary Johnson, SRT Motorsports road racing manager. The Viper has had an illustrious racing career and the new model is hoping to continue that success.

"Racing has been a significant part of the illustrious history of Viper not only with wins on the track, but also in the continued development of the street cars - and our new 2013 SRT Viper models are proof of those lessons learned," said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO - Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. "Now with our new team and the launch of the GTS-R, we're excited and proud to begin writing more chapters in the racing history of the Viper later this summer."
