Mercedes-Benz Creates a Hearse - CLS Shooting Brake Spotted

Mercedes-Benz has a new shooting brake that is more of a wagon than anything else.
Mercedes-Benz first rolled out their CLS Shooting Brake/Wagon at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show and the latest variant of the German's four-door coupe sparked quite a bit of conversation. We have just received the latest shots of the production version of said shooting brake with only its rear-end sporting camouflage. In terms of design, a shooting brake usually features two-door extended-rear styling whereas the CLS variant features four doors and a large rear cargo area.

It appears that Mercedes' latest CLS is a shooting brake in name only. In any case, it carries some slick styling from the 2010 concept and some more conventional window lines. In terms of power, the base CLS350 model could feature a 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 306hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. A more powerful CLS550 version could take its coupe counterparts' 4.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 402hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. For even faster commutes to your kid's soccer practices, a top-of-the-line CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake model has been rumored.
The top-end shooting brake could pack a likely 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with outputs of roughly 518hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake could make its debut as early as the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September and hit showrooms around the turn of the year as a 2013 model.
