Top Gear’s Richard Hammond Reveals His Top Ten American Cars

From pickups to fire trucks, you won’t find too many lists that match the little Brit’s odd selection.

In a recent interview with GQ the hamster was discussing his first dedicated US series 'Crash Course,' in which he finds the biggest and most powerful vehicles in America and takes them for a spin. Unlike Clarkson who once claimed "Americans have the aesthetic ability of giraffes," Hammond is a big fan of the states and is tenderly known as the show's 'secret American' by his co-hosts. During the chat, posted by Wired, GQ asked the little one to list his top ten American cars.

As you expect of a quirky Englishman, there are a couple of curve balls as well as some obvious classics. The 1953 Chevrolet Corvette he accurately describes as 'desperately beautiful,' and the 1955 Chrysler C-300 as 'brutally handsome.' We can't argue with the inclusion of the 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT or the 1969 Dodge Charger but the AMC Pacer and Striker Fire Truck come way out of left field. Modern picks include the 2012 Jeep Wrangler, 'a fabulous retro car,' the Corvette ZR1, which he believes is one of America's true sports cars, and anything by Fisker.

Completing the list he simply cites 'pickup trucks,' noting a Dodge Ram and a '50s Ford or Chevy as his favored rides and something he would one day like to get for his wife. We can't be too sure whether he actually put any considered thought into the list or just made it up on the spot. Nevertheless, it's an interesting, inoffensive mix covering most bases.
