Pagani Zonda R Spied on the Streets of Shenzhen

There aren’t too many countries that allow a car that’s not been road-homologated on the road. China is one of them.

Only 15 Zonda R models have been built, so you're almost certainly never going to see one of these up close. Given that it's also ineligible as a road car (deemed too powerful and unsafe), the chances of seeing it breeze by on the streets should also be close to zero. Yet in China, the country where seemingly anything goes, one of these spectacular machines was caught on camera on the streets of Shenzhen.

Apparently it has been given the 'OK' by locals, so the owner, who also boasts an Aston Martin One-77 in his collection, can now casually drive around in a car whose 6.2-liter V12, derived from the race version of the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR, produces a staggering 740hp and 524lb-ft of torque. The Pagani Zonda R's most closely related competitors are the track-biased Ferrari FXX and Maserati MC12 Corsa, but when seen opposite an Audi, with its carbon-fiber body, giant rear wing, and F1-style exhaust system, it looks like it's just beamed down from another planet.
