BMW M3 Electric by EV West to Tackle Pikes Peak
One small step for the M3, one giant leap for electric cars.
The team over at Electric Vehicle West has created a 1995 BMW M3 Coupe for running in the Pikes Peak event this coming July. So, what's so special about this particular E36 M3 you might ask? The Bimmer's 3.0-liter inline-six has been replaced by an electronically-limited (for now) 400hp twin-air cooled electric motor which produces an intimidating 700 lb-ft of torque. The BMW M3 Coupe has been stripped down for weight-savings and featuring racing-spec parts like a roll cage, bucket racing seat and rear wing.
It sits on a set of 17-inch lightweight wheels and EV West plans on adding some carbon fiber panels in the future for an even lighter weight.
EV West is based out of San Marcos, California. The Pikes Peak event is run annually in July. Keep an eye out for the M3 Electric as it attempts to set some competitive times on the grueling course.
