Roadable Aircraft by Terrafugia Touches Down at New York Auto Show

Its first flight was completed just a few days ago, and deliveries of the flying car are expected this year.
Whether the Terrafugia Roadable Aircraft will ever take off (from a commercial perspective) remains to be seen, but as you can see from the attached video it's certainly no pipe dream. Dubbed the Transition, its anticipated base price is $279,000 and orders are now being accepted by the Woburn, Massachusetts based company. Refundable deposits of $10,000 and non-refundable deposits of $2,500 are being taken, with deliveries expected by the end of the year.

When airborne, it can cruise at 105mph and reach a top speed of 115mph. On the road it manages a pedestrian 65mph. It can cover a distance of up to 490 miles in the air and is equipped with a "full vehicle parachute." According to Terrafugia, this is designed to land the entire aircraft. The company claim potential buyers can get the requisite Sport Pilot license to fly the Transition in as little as 20 hours of flight time.
