Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG '45th Anniversary' Edition Comes to NYC

To mark the high-performance AMG brand’s 45th birthday, Mercedes has unveiled this limited edition V12 roadster.

The new Mercedes SL65 AMG was revealed long before the New York Auto Show opened its doors, but a nice surprise at the event was the unveiling of a "45th Anniversary" model, which will be produced in a limited edition of just 45 vehicles. Marking AMG's 45th birthday this June, the SL65 AMG "45th Anniversary" has an exclusive new paint finish: design magno graphite, a shade of grey with a satin look that highlights the aluminum body's contours.

The color also contrasts with the car's high-gloss chrome applications such as the new 'twin-blade' radiator grille with blade-like slats, surround for the AMG-specific LED daytime running lights, and the fins on the wings and hood. Another exclusive feature is the exterior carbon-fiber package in matt finish. The cross strut in the front apron, exterior mirrors and spoiler lip are all genuine carbon-fiber, and the 621hp (739lb-ft) AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine cover is made up of carbon-fiber and aluminum. Mated to an AMG Speedshift Plus seven-speed sequential automatic, the result is a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds and a 186mph top speed.

The AMG sports exhaust system features twin tailpipes with the outer surround finished in black with chrome plating and the inner finished in high-gloss chrome; while the car sits on the same AMG multi-spoke forged alloys in titanium grey of the standard 2013 SL65 AMG. The interior gets special upholstery in designo Exclusive STYLE leather in titanium grey pearl/ginger beige, featuring the AMG V12 layout with diamond pattern adorning the AMG sports seats, door center panels, roof lining and steering wheel. A badge on the ashtray cover bears the logo '45th ANNIVERSARY - 1 OF 45.'

Some of the standard-fit appointments in the special edition model include an AMG ceramic high-performance compound brake system, KEYLESS-GO Convenience package, Panoramic vario roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL, electric draft-stop, Intelligent Light System (ILS), and a Bang & Olufsen surround sound system. The market launch of the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG "45th ANNIVERSARY" will take this September.
