Toyota Brings a Trifecta of Concepts to Beijing

Toyota Concepts EV Hybrids Green Auto Shows 2012 Beijing Auto Show

Toyota has revealed three new concept models today at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.

Toyota, as you can imagine, had a strong presence at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. The Japanese company featured 38 vehicles during the opening day proceedings and three concepts stood out from the rest: the Yungdong Shuangqing hybrid sedan and the Deer Qin hatchback and sedan. Starting with the Toyota Yungdong Shuangqing hybrid sedan concept, it was developed at the outfit's R&D center in Changshu, China and features a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain slated for 2015.

Yundong suggests "movement upon clouds," the company's slogan in the Far East. Moving on to the Dear Qin concept, the hatchback and sedan both serve as previews for the company's latest compact global car. Set to arrive in 2013, the entry-level model, Toyota hopes, will attract the attention of first-time car buyers. Toyota President Akio Toyoda said of the concepts, "We would like to put smiles on the faces of our Chinese customers with hybrid technology. I want the people of China to be able to experience the beauty of hybrid technology through a hybrid car born in China."

To further address China's growing need for greener cars, Toyota plans on launching a plug-in hybrid model by the end of this year and a full-electric model by 2013.
