For many muscle car fans, these EVs can only be described as sacrilegious.

Electric and hybrid cars may slowly be taking over the world, but Americans will always and forever love their muscle cars. While the market for muscle may be drying up, there is a new market that combines green tech with big, boxy cars. If we're ever to have some truly powerful cars in the future, we may have to be open-minded about their potential power sources. These electric muscle cars are just a sampling of what may be to come. American muscle car purists, shield your eyes.

Maryland-based Genovation Cars has created the world's first and only electric Corvette. The G-Vette has a powerful electric engine capable of pushing 600 horsepower with an estimated range of around 200 miles.

If you would rather push a Ford than charge a Volt, then you will love the Mustang 300E. This electric Mustang was created by Roanele, and has all the power you would expect from a Mustang (300 horsepower, 1000 lbs-ft of torque, 0-60 acceleration in less than 4 seconds, and a top speed of 130 mph) with none of the harmful emissions. That's the good news; the bad news is that the Mustang 300E costs $80,000 in addition to the cost of the actual car.

It may be difficult to remember the Dodge Zeo concept. Back before the Volt, Dodge debuted the Zeo all the way back in 2008 in Detroit. The concept featured a 268 hp electric engine with a range of somewhere near 250 miles. The concept never made it to reality (obviously), but it's still interesting t check out nonetheless.

HST Automotive has updated the classic Shelby Cobra for the 21st century with their electric replica. The replica has a 300hp engine and a lightweight carbon fiber frame. Pricing starts at $125,000. Nobody ever said going green would be cheap.
