Scion FR-S Speedster Concept by Cartel Customs Spotted in California

This could be the first roadster variant of the Scion FR-S in existence.

Just last month Subaru confirmed that a BRZ convertible is a distinct possibility given the coupe was designed from the outset to be a convertible as well. And if that's the case then by extension a Scion FR-S roadster is just as likely with manufacturer concepts sure to surface in the near future. While we wait, tuning concepts will have to suffice and this speedster concept of the Scion FR-S, spotted at last weekend's Formula Drift event in Long Beach, California, may be the world's first.

The open-top FR-S is the work of Cartel Customs, a California-based tuning company that specializes in the design and manufacture of custom display cars and motorbikes. The one-off Speedster boasts a short windscreen, a two-seat configuration and a mid-mounted instrument panel. There's also a massive 61-inch carbon-fiber wing, modified front fenders and hood, tinted headlights, a rear diffuser, custom paint and a fully custom interior with carbon-fiber inserts. On the technical side, it features an upgraded ACT clutch, GReddy sports exhaust system, KW suspension,18-inch alloys, and Wilwood brakes.

Under the hood, the FR-S' stock 2.0-liter boxer engine has been retained, which is good for 200hp and 151lb-ft of torque and mated to a 6-speed transmission.
