Three’s Company: Peugeot 208, 208 GTi and 208 XY Concepts in Geneva

Peugeot brought a pair of 208 concepts for their respective debuts at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Peugeot has arrived at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show with their 207-replacing 208 model. The Peugeot 208 is available in either a 3- or 5-door (seen here) configuration and it was joined by two interesting concepts, the first a 3-door 208 GTi Concept and the second a three-door XY concept. The standard Peugeot 208 features a choice of two gasoline engines, either a 75hp 1.0-liter 3-cylinder plant or a more powerful 1.2-liter version good for 100hp.

Three diesel engines are also available, all featuring the French automaker's fuel-efficient stop/start system. It can return roughly 83.1mpg on the EU cycle. "The 208 is a new illustration of the Marque's project launched two years ago, representing a new stage in Peugeot's desire to drive itself towards ever greater modernity," commented Xavier Peugeot, Marketing and Communication Director. The Peugeot 208 XY Concept is timidly purple, fitting as it features a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine rated at 116hp. The XY is equipped with full LED headlights, horizontal chrome grille bars and a set of 18-inch wheels.

The GTi Concept packs the RCZ Coupe's 200hp turbocharged 1.6-liter engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission. It has a 36mm wider track and features a prominent rear spoiler. Red paint adds to the more powerful GTi's aggressive look. The Peugeot 208 will head into production soon, while there are no concrete plans yet to put the pair of concepts into production. Both the GTi and XY Concepts seem like feasible projects, so we expect either one or both to eventually make it into showrooms.
