Nissan Hi-Cross Concept aka the Next-Gen X-Trail Debuts in Geneva

The Nissan Hi-Cross Concept has made its much-anticipated debut in Geneva.

Nissan has just unveiled their pre-production next-generation X-Trail SUV, dubbed the Hi-Cross Concept. The exterior styling features cues meant for the Japanese automaker's range of next-gen models. The Hi-Cross Concept reveals styling meant "to extend Nissan's leadership of the crossover market with a possible expansion of the current Juke-Qashqai-Murano portfolio." A V-shaped grille, slick styling from the headlights backward and a futuristic interior characterize the 7-seater.

It measures 4,660mm in length and sits on a set of 21-inch "Although this is purely a concept car, exploring potential ideas for the future, there is no ambiguity about its purpose. It is a high-riding crossover, hence its name: Hi-Cross Concept. But the name does more than refer to its shape," said Nissan Deputy Division General Manager of Product Strategy and Product Planning Division Francois Bancon. "The 'Hi' refers equally to the idea of extended value, to the levels of innovation found in the drivetrain and, of course, to the excitement promised from the behind the wheel."

The new concept features a hybrid powertrain pairing a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with direct injection to an electric motor. Equipped with Nissan's X-Tronic CVT, the flexible, efficient hybrid can run in either a front-wheel or all-wheel-drive configuration. The Nissan Hi-Cross Concept is currently on display at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
