Geneva 2012: Hyundai i-oniq Concept Spreads Hybrid Love

The Geneva Show is playing host to another debut, this time in hybrid/shooting brake form.
Hyundai's "fluidic sculpture" design language might be the single most impressive (and possibly unexpected) thing we might be taking away from the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The i-oniq concept features the new styling lines in spades coupled with some pre-production goodies like gullwing doors and airy roof design in a shooting brake guise. The i-oniq concept is fitted with a range-extending 1.0-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine mated via a generator to a lithium-ion electric motor producing 107hp.

In electric-only mode, it has a range of about 74 miles and when assisted by the gasoline engine, it can travel up to 435 miles producing just 45g/km of CO2 in the process. The concept is capable of reaching a top speed of 90mph. The i-oniq Concept is the harbinger of Hyundai's new styling path and if the South Koreans continue down this road, only good things could be coming ahead.
