Acura’s New Flagship Sedan Will Debut in New York; Named the RLX

Acura plans to unveil a brand-new replacement for its RL flagship at the New York Auto Show.
There's been no official announcement, but everything points to Acura's next flagship sedan being called the RLX, replacing the RL badge. It is also widely expected to debut at next week's New York Auto Show. First, Wards Auto claim Acura's vice president Jeff Conrad said as much in a media event for the ILX compact sedan and redesigned RDX crossover. And second, the company has submitted a trademark application for the name RLX with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Last October, Honda revealed it had completed a new high output electric SH-AWD hybrid, combining a 3.5-liter V6 with two 20kW+ motors on the rear wheels. At the time, Acura's parent company said it would be used on 'large-sized vehicles,' so there's every chance this powertrain setup will feature in the new RLX. Reports suggest that Acura will offer just the three sedans going forward, and with the new ILX and RLX in the bag either the TL or TSX will be cut from the lineup. Apparently Acura are currently trademarking the name TLX, which would suggest its curtains for the TSX. Photos displayed are the 2012 Acura RL.
