Bringing out the Big Guns: Lexus Planning a GS-F Super Sedan

Lexus wants to leave their conservative image behind once and for all.

Now that Lexus is finally getting serious about being a true performance competitor to the likes of BMW's M series and Mercedes' AMG, reports are coming out that the Japanese automaker is looking to build a GS-F super sedan. According to a report coming from Autocar.co.uk, Lexus product planning chief Karl Schlicht has revealed that he'd "love to see" a GS-F hit the production line, but it has to be approved by senior Toyota management.

A GS-F has been rumored for some time now and if it were given the green light, it would complete a product strategy plan that was put into place to improve Lexus's overall image. Other models involved in this makeover include the IS-F sport sedan and V10-powered LFA. If the GS-F were to be built, sources have indicated Lexus may opt for a slightly detuned version of the LFA's 4.8-liter V10. No doubt this would be interesting to see how it could compare to the recently launched BMW M5, which dropped the V10 and is now powered by a twin-turbocharged V8.

In addition, a potential GS-F would inspire the styling and driving characteristics of the next generation IS. No potential launch date has been set, but if Lexus were to go ahead with the project, we expect for the GS-F to arrive sometime in 2014. Photos displayed are of the 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport.
