Mercedes-Benz Set to Unveil New GL at New York

Look forward to more details and initial pictures in the coming weeks, if not days.

In just a few weeks' time, the second-gen Mercedes-Benz GL will make its debut at the New York Auto Show. The 2013 GL-class SUV is based on the same architecture underpinning the new ML and will maintain three rows of seats. Improvements will naturally be made to fuel efficiency and refinement, while interior space is set to grow. Given it accounted for close to 40 percent of GL sales last year, an optional V6 diesel engine will be offered.

In terms of a gasoline engine option, Mercedes twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 will be good for more than 400hp and will power a new GL550, but the GL450 may be removed from the lineup. Sales will start sometime later this year, with prices to be close to the current model's $63,445 price tag.
