Skoda is keeping things cheap and simple with their upcoming mid-sizer.
Do you remember the Skoda MissionL Concept that was shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show last September? Today we have the very first spy photos showing the production car that, according to rumors, will be named Rapid. The only confusing thing with the name Rapid is that Skoda already has a version of the VW Polo sedan sold in India that's already dubbed Rapid. That car may eventually be sold in Europe and if that's the case, VW may just simply leave it as the Polo sedan.
The Rapid will slot in between the Fabia and the Octavia, with the Octavia growing slightly for the next generation coming in 2013, and will first come as a hatchback. A wagon, or Combi in Skoda language, will follow one year later. A Seat branded version will also arrive, likely to be named the Toledo. To keep it cheap and simple, the Rapid will be based on the old platform and will not use the new MQB platform. Skoda will however use the latest engines and gearboxes from the VW Group.
Expect a debut in late summer or at latest at the Paris Auto Show in September.
