Mercedes-Benz to Launch 2013 SL65 AMG at New York Auto Show

Contrary to recent reports, the V12-powered SL65 AMG is remaining in the SL’s lineup.

According to Car and Driver, Mercedes-Benz will introduce the new SL65 AMG at next month's New York Auto Show. Its new sixth-generation SL was unveiled in January with the SL550 (pictured), and contrary to rumors, it seems the V12 variant will remain in the SL lineup. The previous SL65 AMG was powered by a 6.0-liter V12 capable putting out 604hp and a phenomenal 738lb-ft of torque, and mated to a solid five-speed automatic transmission.

It's as yet unknown whether Mercedes will employ the same powertrain or make an upgrade. Given the 12-cylinder AMG models are sold in such limited numbers, overhauling the engine seems unlikely and the power will stay the same. The SL65 and V8-powered SL63 will hit showrooms in July, preceded by the SL550 which is expected in April or May. Pricing of the AMG-tuned V12 should start around the $200,000 mark.
