Brabus Tunes the GL-Class

Individualization program includes a choice of custom alloys, power upgrades and bespoke interior for the big Benz bus.

Mercedes tuning specialist Brabus has introduced a new aftermarket package for the GL-Class at the Essen Motor Show. Exterior mods are limited to an air suspension module that can lower the SUV by 30 mm, a variety of custom Monoblock wheels including 23-inch "Platinum Edition" forged alloys, and a stainless-steel sports exhaust system available with two or four chrome-plated tailpipes. Inside, Brabus has gone all out, offering Mastik leather and Alcantara upholstery, as well as carbon fiber and wood trim available in a range of colors.

Stainless-steel scuff plates with backlit Brabus logo, aluminum pedals and door-lock pins, and a 200-mph speedometer round out the interior options. Performance upgrades include high-performance brakes and power kits for the GL 350 BlueTec and GL 500. The former can be equipped with the ECO PowerXtra D6S kit, which bumps output to 310 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque, enabling the crossover to sprint from 0-62 mph in 7.6 seconds and a hit a 140 mph top speed. The GL500 gets the B50-520 performance kit, helping the 4.7-liter V8 generate 521 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The result is a 0-62mph time of 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph.
