BMW 2 Series Gets its Coupe On

Following shots of the upcoming 2 Series cabrio, our spy photographers have returned with images of its hardtop sibling.

When BMW finishes tinkering with its numerical naming scheme, the 3 Series Coupe/Cabrio will become the 4 Series (as seen by the recently-released concept), and the 1 Series Coupe/Cabrio will be reborn as the 2 Series. We spied the new BMW 2 Series Convertible two weeks ago, and now we have the first images of the 2 Series Coupe to share. Incorporating design features found on the 1 Series hatchback, now on sale in Europe, the upcoming 2 Series will be sold in the US.

Enthusiasts, of course, will hope that this will also form the basis of a new M2 to take the place of the dear departed 1 Series M Coupe. While dreaming of that high-performance model, check out this 2 Series coupe prototype, spied wearing psychedelic black and white camo, but with its red roof and wing mirrors laid bare.
