Turbo Four for Next Camaro

Like its Ford Mustang competitor, the next Chevrolet Camaro will be available with a turbo four-cylinder engine to keep its fuel emissions at bay.
This news shouldn't come as a complete shock to anyone, but it'll still likely annoy the purists just the same. According to a new report coming from GM Authority, the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro will not only be smaller and lighter than the current car, but it'll also have a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot in the engine lineup. Now, before everyone begins to go completely berserk over this new lack of displacement, sources are claiming that Chevy will still offer plenty of horsepower and bigger engines.

For those with a taste for more power, the 300+hp V6 and next-generation small-block V8 will be offered in addition to the turbo four. The reason, as many can guess, for the smaller engine is simply because of constricting emissions standards around the globe. Like the next-gen Mustang, Chevy is aiming its new Camaro at markets outside the US as well, so having that smaller engine available will certainly make it a more realistic global proposition. Like the next Mustang, the new Camaro will retain its rear-wheel-drive architecture thanks to GM's new Alpha platform, which is lighter than the current Zeta chassis that also underpins the Holden Commodore.
