Top Nurburgring Performances

Lapping the Ring has never looked so good as it does in these five clips.

Nurburg is home to the world's most demanding purporse-built racing circuit. At a shade under 13 miles, each lap includes rapid straights, hairpin turns, sweeping off-camber curves and elevation changes, and stands as the ultimate test of a car's overall performance capabilities. This is why carmakers from across the globe test their new creations there and have permanent facilities on site. Plenty of videos have emanated from the Green Hell, from supercars trying to realize their potential to racing drivers scaring the crap out of their wives. What follows is a small selection of some of our favorites.

In the first of two Chris Harris vids, the British auto scribe takes the track-optimized Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition supercar around the Ring, claiming it's "the best road car I've ever driven around here, which, added to its unique appeal as an object, intensifies the aura that surrounds this motoring curiosity."

General Motors claimed the ZL1 would be track-ready from the showroom, and here GM test driver Aaron Link pilots a production-spec Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 around the Nurburgring in 7:41:27 - quicker than a Porsche 911 Turbo S. The ZL1 is equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 that can put out a mean 580 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque.

When curiosity got the better of DTM driver Augusto Farfus's wife, he took her for a lap of the vaunted Nurburgring Nordschleife. More than happy to oblige the whim of his (very cute) better half, Farfus lined up a BMW M3 and proceeded to scare the bejeezers out of her on the vaunted Nordschleife.

In one of his best productions ever, Harris takes the Ariel Atom and Noble M600 to the Nurburgring for the first time. With driving skills and in-depth car knowledge in equal measure (but arguably lacking the testicular fortitude of an F1 driver), Harris is the perfect guy to take such extreme performance cars around the greatest race track on earth.

When Renaultsport invited its Facebook fans to suggest unique challenges for its Twingo RS, a fan's goldfish ended up being taken for a lap of the Nurburgring Nordschliefe. French car journalist Margot Laffite chauffeured a gorgeous model named Jenny who held said goldfish in a bowl on her lap around the Green Hell in the new Twingo Red Bull RB7 edition.
