Scion Updates the xB for 2013

Toyota's boxy hatchback gets a minor facelift to keep it current.

The excitement over at Scion may be over the FR-S, but Toyota's youth-oriented budget brand has other models to offer. Like the xB, which has received a modest update for 2013. First introduced in 2003 in boxier form, the xB is now in its second generation, more rounded but still looking like a brand-new baseball cap. The upgrades include a new bumpers front and rear with gloss black accents and integrated LEDs. The interior has also been updated with new upholstery, metallic trim and audio system.

The engine carries over unchanged in the form of a 2.4-liter four with 158 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque (which is still more than the Toyota Corolla Rumion as it's called in the Japanese domestic market), driving through woefully antiquated five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. Buyers (for many of whom this will be their first car) can also order the new xB in Absolutely Red (pictured here) and Nautical Blue. Pricing starts at $16,800 with deliveries starting early in the new year.
