Dacia Planning Two-Seat Sportscar?

A bare-bones sportscar from Renault-Nissan's budget brand could help Dacia drum up some excitement, but we wouldn't count it as heading for production just yet.
We wouldn't blame you if you've never heard of Dacia. It's an obscure Romanian automaker owned by Renault that sells budget-friendly, bare-bones cars in select overseas markets. But the brand's UK boss isn't satisfied leaving things there. The brand is about to officially launch in Great Britain, but Auto Express is reporting that Dacia's UK managing director wants a two-seat sportscar to drum up some excitement for the brand and bring potential buyers into showrooms.

As part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Dacia wouldn't necessarily have to go it alone to develop such a product. But the platform underpinning something like the Nissan 370Z or the upcoming Alpine being developed by Renault and Caterham would be far too expensive for a brand like Dacia. The proposal calls for something even cheaper than the Mazda MX-5 to join the Duster, Sandero, Sandero Stepway and Lodgy in Dacia's lineup, but strike us even less likely than the prospect of Dacia coming to North America.
