The South Korean automaker's sporty coupe has become a favorite of tuning houses around the world.
A few years ago the idea of tuning a Hyundai was more of a joke than anything else. However, the Genesis Coupe has changed all of that. The South Korean automaker's sporty coupe has become a favorite of both gearheads and tuning houses. The tuned Geneses featured here show just how beastly the two-door can become when a few additional engine modifications are installed. A 450-horsepower South Korean sportscar is nothing to sleep on.
ARK Performance has bumped the horsepower of the Genesis Coupe R-Spec from 348 to 395 and its torque from 296 lb-ft to 340 lb-ft. Aesthetic upgrades include flared fenders, a carbon fiber hood, a rear diffuser and a carbon wing. The added Sparco steering wheel, racing seats and eight-point roll cage (all courtesy of JPM Coachworks) makes ARK's SEMA 2012 offering capable of tearing up the track as well as the street.
Schmidt Revolution's Project Panther is the only Genesis Coupe tune job on this list with a Brian Fantana-approved name. The sexy panther sports new front and rear bumpers, a handmade grille and LED daytime running lights. Engine modifications are limited to a new quad-pipe stainless steel exhaust system. Additional upgrades include a stiffer suspension and a 20-inch three-piece Schmidt Revolution FS Line wheels covered by high-performance Falken tires.
The originally named Australian tuning firm Austech has created a Genesis GT Coupe to compete in Grand Am, GT3 and GTE races. The beastly South Korean coupe's 5.0-liter V8 engine will be tuned to put out 450hp for Grand Am races and 550hp for GT3 events.
Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) showed the world just how good a Genesis Coupe equipped with Hyundai's 5.0-liter V8 Tau engine could look at SEMA 2011. The all-black coupe was covered in carbon fiber bits (spoiler, rear diffuser, etc...) and came equipped with a RMR stainless exhaust with GReddy rear section muffler and titanium tips. Brembo brake calipers and carbon ceramic brake rotors were also added to ensure that the RMR Genesis can stop on short notice. Hyundai hasn't moved on a 5.0-liter V8 Genesis coupe yet, but it did call RMR's creation "production-ready."
Magnuson Products and Hyundai America spent the better part of two years creating the Genesis Hurricane SC. The Hurricane SC's 3.8-liter V6 pushes 450hp thanks to a liquid-to-air intercooled supercharger provided by Magnuson. A body kit (also from Magnuson), a limited slip differential from Torvec Inc. and a Harman Lexicon sound system from Harman International round out the list of added goodies.
