A variety of VW Beetles will be displayed at 2012 SEMA show this week.
Volkswagen has presented a variety of customized Beetles for this week's SEMA Show, with no less than six models showcasing how to best modify the Bug. Kicking off the lineup is the Azure Blue Metallic "Ultimate Super Beetle" built in collaboration with performance specialist APR and VWvortex. A 2013 Beetle Turbo was used as the base and its 200-horsepower 2.0-liter TFSI was given a raft of enhancements, including an APR turbocharger, high-performance intercoolers, an ECU upgrade, high-flow cylinder heads and intake manifold.
The result is a significant boost in output to 500 hp, which is suitable managed by fitting a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system pinched from the Golf R, an upgraded Haldex all-wheel drive race controller, and H&R coilover suspension and sport sway bars. Other mods include a DXD Racing Stage III clutch and VW Racing short shifter, a big brake system, 19-inch fifteen52 Formula TR alloys, an aero package and Recaro sport seats. The Beach Battle Cruiser is up next, featuring an FMS Automotive body kit, a roof rack complete with surf board, a deployable shower, 19-inch custom Fuchs Performance alloys and a leather and suede interior.
Performance enhancements, including a larger Revo Technik turbocharger, software upgrade, and intake and exhaust system, bumps output to around 400 hp. FMS Automotive is also displaying a fully restored 1956 Beetle with an upgraded powertrain, contemporary paint scheme and full leather interior, and a modified 2012 Beetle with a two-tone exterior, H&R springs, Rostra LED lights and a custom fabricated dual exhaust system. Galpin Auto Sports has served up a Beetle inspired by hot rods, chopping the roof and giving it a two-tone Onyx Black and Candy Apple paint job, with a similar color combo deployed inside.
A lowered suspension and 20-inch "vintage Porsche" three-piece alloys complete the look. Bringing up the rear is the Rotiform Beetle wrapped in matte grey aluminum, which has been modified with an Air Lift suspension, and concave alloys wrapped in Nitto performance tires.
